<itunes:summary>Sisters Tresa Eyres and Charlene Cox
Reverend Lloyd Eucker was, by all accounts, an astounding man who knew, among other things, how to wait his turn for the friendship of a child too shy to say hello. Love Letters Live Co-founder Tresa Eyres was that little girl who averted her gaze at every offer of a handshake. Reverend Eucker was not daunted by this at all. He offered and offered until one day she took his hand. What he got for his patience was Tresa’s lifelong devotion, admiration and friendship. Tresa is a fan of being nothing less than significant in any declaration, so when she heard that her friend Lloyd Eucker himself asked that she speak at his funeral, she knew she was given a serious mission to portray this man who had such an impact on her life. How to do it? To hear her talk about how she approached this sad goodbye is a valuable lesson. And, learning about the Reverend Llloyd Eucker is a treat in itself.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>James Sokol, of the Marin JCC and founder of Exploring Opera with James Sokol and, hence, leader of fabulous trips to hear opera and Broadway musicals, had very clever parents. His bedtime stories were the plots of classical operas, perfect short stories with endless adventure and visual excitement. So, it is no surprise that he has made a life in opera and Broadway musicals. He is presenting a celebration of Broadway on May 5th, 2013, starring Kimilee Bryant to take place at the Marin County JCC. Everything James does is uncommonly wonderful. To hear James talk about his life is an adventure itself where love, humility, high comedy and classical music intersect.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Because it is baseball time again, and for San Francisco, Giants time, I wanted to treat you to a Love Letters Live of a while ago. A re-run. I figure if tv can do it, so can I. Baseball Mary as some of you may know from Love Letters Live or from seeing her at the games, that she is a passionate SF Giants fan. Not just a fan but a philanthropist who is focused on and succeeds at making the world better. She is smart, serious, enthusiastic and fun. To listen to her tell her story is a treat. So, if you missed it last time, you have another chance here. And, if you did hear it, you may want to start the season hearing it again. Knowing Baseball Mary is like having some inside privilege, like being more a part of the game through her. Her love of the team is totally contagious.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Andrew Lam, my personal favorite Vietnamese writer, is back with another wonderful book. This one, Birds of Paradise Lost, is fiction, although it is so heart-reaching and detailed in it is in its portrayal of Vietnamese people who have had to make new lives in America that I originally thought it was a collection of real biographies. His skill and talent are such that even his fiction drew me into a world of reality. Andrew is so emotionally generous in his writing, such an exuberant part of a modern world in the way he lives, and has a way of making others feel graceful in his presence that his success is no surprise. To hear him talk about his life and his transition from Vietnamese child to American adult is a lesson in joyous possibilities.

<itunes:summary>Annie Albagli, as an artist, has done what we come to expect from a significant artist; she engineers the unexpected. You can see delightful surprises everywhere she has set her hand, mind and heart to work. Her inspirations are as original as her interpretations. And, she is not satisfied to remain enmeshed in only one plane of communication. Annie has done something that took me by such surprise that I asked her to talk about it on Love Letters Live. She has created an interactive love letter to Washington D.C. Annie brings to mind and practical action how place, time and history combine to shape the positive best expressed in a love letter. You may want to take part in it. When I listened to Annie talk about this wonderful project, I felt that the very tone of her voice holds a world of affection.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Heidi Kühn founder and CEO of Roots of Peace
Heidi Kühn is the founder and CEO of Roots of Peace, an organization dedicated to the removal of land mines throughout the world. She flies fearlessly through war ravaged countries, tiptoes past danger on a moment’s notice, and meets with heads of state whose support she overwhelmingly has. The danger is overwhelming and the task Herculean, but Heidi forges ahead with confidence that it is the mothers of the world who, in an utterly apolitical manner, can make the world safer. Not just safe, but productive; at the site of each land mine removed, a grapevine is planted in its place. To listen to this beautiful woman, who has the face of an angel and the heart of a lion, talk about her own journey past personal land mines is to take a look into the exceptional bravery, faith and spirit that is the basis for her success in this bold mission she has personally assigned herself.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Deciding to write a love letter has always been, to me, the first step on the road to bathing in the positive, and I am happy to say that this is newly brought to my attention every time I see it in action. Jonathan Brower , psychotherapist and host of his own internet radio show called Human Behavior, What a Trip, recently joined me on Love Letters Live with sweet memories of so much in his younger life, and he is planning a very important love letter to his father. This is particularly joyful for me since his father is my father. Yes, Jon is my brother and some of his memories are mine, too. To listen to him talk about what is right in life is a tribute to how we can look back and focus on what was right in our lives.</itunes:summary>

Ann Mahony is back to talk once again about one of my favorite subjects, and maybe yours, too, handwriting. Listen to Ann talk about more of what she does in her life as a handwriting analyst. Is it possible to disguise your intentions by disguising your handwriting? Why might it be a good idea to have an analysis of your handwriting and your sweetheart’s before you walk down the aisle? Are you doomed if your personalities are at odds? Well, of course not, but isn’t it nice to know the secrets hidden in the sentences he writes to you or you to him? I think so. In any case, Ann is endlessly fascinating.</itunes:summary>

Jerry Gillies, best selling author, comedy writer, performing comedian and ex-con is back to talk about comedy, his last performance at the Berkeley Marsh, what makes people funny and what successful people have in common. He is, as you may remember, about to become an expat, but with the internet as it is you don’t ever have to lose touch with him. Listen to him talk about it all including a discussion of possible historically significant love letters. Charming and then some.</itunes:summary>

 <itunes:summary>Paul in high school
Paul today pictured here with his dad
Paul was a small boy the last time I saw him right before his mother, one of my closest friends, died of cancer at the age of 29. I never saw him again. I kept track more or less where he was but never knew how he was. As much as I wanted to find him, I felt it might be intrusive so let the days, months and years pass. Then, I couldn’t let it go any longer, and one thing leading to another, I realized my best chance. Facebook! And, yes, there he was. I “friended” him with a message, we got to the telephone and talked like no time had passed since a visit when he was maybe 7, over 40 yeas ago. He and my children, who would have been raised as brother and sisters had his mother lived, became facebook friends. I met his teen-age children on Skype.
He recently came to visit, and as the doorbell rang, my heart skipped its next ten beats. I opened the door to the most heartrending sight I could hope for. Right there was an exquisite smiling blue-eyed man who was once the exquisite bereft blue-eyed child. And right next to him was his beautiful wife. And, he is happy. Paul is now a psychology teacher, a volleyball coach, a husband, a father, smart, interesting and emotionally generous. Listen to Paul to see how maturity, inner light, and love transform loss into strength and memories.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Jerry Gillies, best selling author of Money Love, has a resumé that has to be true because no one would think of making it up. One career or persona has smoothly morphed into the next and he is hardly done. He has plans that include his 150th birthday party with, if, alas, not current friends, new ones. From broadcasting to comedy writing for some of the greats to a best selling book to a 12 year prison term for a very odd offense and now standup comedy, this is a man whose story is so worth hearing right now. No wonder he is endlessly quoted. And, for the in person version, you can see him Tuesday November 13th at the Marsh Berkeley. One of his love-letter writing experiences was that of a prison Cyrano de B. Who could have guessed?</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Lauren Mayer says she is an entertainer and that she got her sense of humor from her father. I think there is more to it on all counts. She is surely an entertainer but does so much under the title of “entertainer” that you have to hear it to know how far reaching it is. She is a working comedienne, writes her own material, plays the piano, sings, acts, produces her recordings and videos, coaches acting, is a wife, and is a the mother of two sons. To listen to Lauren talk about her life, her work, her father, her mother and her two boys is a joy. My hat’s off to her for holding up nice high and respectful expectations she has of her two sons. Raising boys is a serious business that might be done best with a good sense of comedy especially in the areas of etiquette and sex in today’s world.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Karletta Moniz, connoisseur and teacher with a specialty in chocolate, is back with a new and markedly different specialty, that of grandmother. Not just a plain grandmother, a wonderful enough gift in its own right, but an urbane grandmother. Karletta has created a world of what to do with your grandchildren in the San Francisco Bay Area. She approaches this with the same elegance, fun and mastery as she does her life in chocolate. In her own view the urbane grandmother is the “Auntie Mame of the 21st century”. Because Karletta treasures her own vivid childhood memories of growing up in the glow of the San Francisco area, she wants to help others build them, too. Listen to Karletta talk about being an urbane grandmother and see the heights to which she has taken the loving and influential role of grandmotherhood.</itunes:summary>

When we seem to be too busy to meditate and too stressed not to, what’s a person to do? Do we shove the stress down as best we can and ignore the symptoms that are begging us to slow down? Do we need to travel great distances to find quiet? Do we need years of training to find the inner quiet we need. Well, the short answer is no, no and no. Martin Boroson, author of One Moment Meditation; Stillness for People on the Go, has created a world of one moment meditation that is do-able anywhere and at any moment at all. Martin is exuberant about his discipline and eager to offer his followers a uniquely playful approach. I found it pure joy to listen to Martin talk about what he does, the difference between a moment and a minute, and the high-comedy man-under-pressure way he hit on the truths he teaches.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Tresa and Janet as the Love Letter Squad
Tresa Eyres will always be my partner in the world of love letters. We shared the microphone for 7 years as co-hosts of our talk show Love Letters Live. We had a wonderful time together and always left the studio beaming in the light of our guests. She left the show a while ago to pursue other activities, all of which make the world better, safer and more beautiful. So many of you have asked how she is, do I see her, and what is she doing. She is fine, I do see her (and love it when I do), and for the rest of it, here she is to share her life after Love Letters Live. For those of you who do not know her yet, here is your chance to meet an exceptional woman.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Times have certainly changed. We text, we message, we keep in touch on facebook, twitter and a slew of other social networks and we might go to the opera in jeans, but there is one form of communication that has held its own. Flowers. Larry Hoogasian, great grandson of the man who put up the first flower stand in San Francisco near the old Gumps, is still going strong. A dearer man you could not find. Listen to him talk about his family history what his name actually means, what happened to that first flower stand and his work with Rotary. Larry writes love letters daily for the people who order flowers, kind of a Cyrano de San Francisco.</itunes:summary>

Hugo Campos is a modern hero out slaying dragons on behalf of us all. Who owns the information our bodies produce? Do we? Should we? Seems the companies that make implantable devices to keep our heart-beat regular get the information our bodies are pumping out with every beat and keeping it secret from the very host. Outrageous, really. Listen to Hugo talk about his experience and his turf-war over the ownership of his own body statistics. Who gets his love letter? It was enlightening to hear her talk about the fine lines between teasing and bullying, and I was particularly touched by her nonjudgmental approach. To hear her talk about this devastating issue gives hope that it may someday be diminished as children and adults find other ways to express their own angers. Jeremi McManus holds many titles all of which help you become your best self. Today we focus on Jeremi as a dating coach with clear, encouraging and over-the-top sensible advice that once heard will strike you as so sane that you might well wonder why you didn’t think of it yourself. Oh, well, that is, after all, the point of having a skilled coach who can bring you to your best and most comfortably appealing self, right?
In line with presenting yourself honestly to the online dating world, it was a natural to hear Jeremi start to write a love letter to himself. Practice in affirming one’s self is skill worth developing for so many reasons, not the least of which is so you will be comfortable with your fabulous side and wear it well.
I am wondering if my love letter to Jeremi got to him before his did. I must say I find the very sound of his joyful voice a promise of success. Do yourself a favor and listen to him talk about what you should know before you even sign up for dating.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Tamim Ansary, exceptional author of several remarkable books, talks about his recent visit to Afghanistan with insights new to many Americans who are generally dependent on popular media for information. Listening to Tamim tell about any aspect of his life is an experience that is, in short, hard to describe but so compelling that even the most distant cultures and times loom in like a familiar reunion. I cannot imagine any better way to learn history than from this man’s personal view from anything on Othman to love letters. Hard not to pay attention. Give yourself a gift and listen to him talk about why he went and what he found. And, yes, good news, he has a new book coming out soon.

<itunes:summary>Marney Makridakas, author of Creating Time, told me that we can create more time. To say I was dubious about that is an understatement since I know exactly how much time there is in a day or a year or even a minute. After listening to this wizard whose relationship to time is that of friend, lover and plaything, I realized I did not know at all how much time there is in any given day, year and that I had a lot to learn. For an encouraging view of how you can get more time for what you want to do. Listen to Marney in her own non-rushed voice. So worth the time!</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Gloria Horsley suffered a frightful tragedy when her beautiful 17 year old son was killed in an automobile accident. How she came to have the spirit and generosity to create Open to Hope, is a wonder. This is a multi-faceted organization that offers hope to those who might otherwise sink under the weight of loss. Gloria is a fearless leader and reliable shelter for those adrift in grief. The beauty of her offer to help starts with “Lean on our hope until you find your own”. To hear her tell her own story is, in its own right, a powerful lesson in putting one foot in front of the other at times of great difficulty. Gloria sees the many possibilities for a love letter and decides on one to her son that will be a gift for generations to come.</itunes:summary>
